Our practice nurses provide surgery-based nursing procedures and give general
healthy living advice. Their numerous tasks include taking blood, infant and adult
immunisation, cervical smears, dressings and removal of stitches, ear syringing,
clinics to monitor blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, hormone replacement therapy,
providing contraceptive advice and undertaking ECGs. They also assist the doctors
in minor surgery and are available to offer professional advice.

to hear your views and suggestions about the service offered by the practice.
Our reception staff will assist you in making routine appointments to see the doctor or nurses, answer numerous and varied questions and offer help and assistance at all times. It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patients’ records is maintained at the highest level by all staff. Our receptionists work under considerable pressure and your consideration would be much appreciated. They have to judge the urgency of your request, so please help them by giving them the necessary information they ask for.
HEALTH VISITORS
The health visitor, employed by Derby PCT, is able to offer preconceptual advice, support and monitoring of the progress of babies from 10 days old throughout infancy. The health visitor can also offer support and advice regarding general health issues throughout adulthood and into the senior years.

MIDWIFE
Our community midwife is very experienced and runs the antenatal clinic at the surgery, offering advice on all aspects of pregnancy. Should you need to speak to a midwife urgently please telephone Midwifery Triage on (01332) 785796 for pregnancy advice over 20 weeks and 01332 861192 (between 9.00 - 10.00am Monday - Friday) for pregnancy advice under 20 weeks.

Our team of district nurses, employed by Derby City PCT, but working from Friar Gate Surgery, undertake a variety of duties, including visiting patients of any age in their homes, giving practical assistance or offering professional advice. Each patient’s needs are assessed and the care/treatment is planned accordingly. District nursing sisters are experienced registered general nurses with a qualification in district nursing.
